If you have a mild case of acne, you may be able to achieve results without medication. Here are some helpful hints:

  1. Wash with lukewarm water.
  2. Use a mild cleanser or an antibacterial lotion that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
  3. Avoid abrasive soap, facial scrub, toner, astringent, and masks.
  4. Don't use a washcloth or puff and don't scrub your skin.
  5. Don't wash more than twice a day.
  6. Never pop, squeeze, or pick acne.
  7. Don't use skincare, makeup, or hair care products unless they're oil-free.

Also, ask your doctor about vitamin supplements like these that may help you avoid a reoccurrence:

  1. Vitamin A to help reduce oil
  2. Zinc to reduce inflammation, redness and swelling
  3. Beta Carotene to lessen susceptibility to infections.

If you don't get results by following the tips described in this article, you should probably see a dermatologist who can suggest another course of treatment.
